Whoa, YouTube officially went widescreen!  This means all the regular videos will have vertical bars, but any videos already formatted for widescreen (like the Left 4 Dead ad I posted last week) will fill the whole screen.  I should’ve seen this coming — their thumbnails were already cropping the videos to a widescreen size, anyway.

Big move, Google.  I think you just made widescreen the standard on web video now.

Edit: Looks like their embed code still makes a square video, but we’ll see if that changes any time soon.
